Ryan Day has dealt with criticism throughout his time at Ohio State for a number of different reasons. Some of those concerns have been valid. Others have been created by rivals as a jab at the coach.

On Monday, Day’s wife did her part to quiet one longstanding rumor often used as a slight. She shut down the narrative that Ryan Day dyes his beard.

Day’s been the head coach in Columbus since 2018. While his Buckeyes have been incredibly successful throughout that time, he’s not been able to satisfy everyone in the fanbase.

Ohio State is 70-10 across the last seven years. They’ve won one national title and played for another. Still, questions about his ability to successfully lead the program have surrounded his tenure.

Much of that has been due to an inability to beat Michigan. Even before last year’s dominant postseason run, fans called for Ryan Day’s job following a fourth straight rivalry loss.

Some Ohio State supporters took things step further, sending death threats which caused the family to take extra security measures throughout the College Football Playoff.

Much of the criticism, from both inside and outside of the fanbase, is aimed at his roster. The Buckeyes often boast the best (and most expensive) players in college football. They haven’t always performed as such under Ryan Day.

Ohio State only slipped into the playoff field this year due to its expansion to 12 teams. They did not play for a conference title. They finished the regular season at 10-2 despite entering the year as the No. 2 team in America.

Michigan fans love to bring those points to light. Former head coach Jim Harbaugh is famously remembered for his “born on third base” quip used to describe the fortuitous situation Day inherited from Urban Meyer. Yet, up until this most recent four-game run, a national title had evaded Ohio State.

He was recently able to silence those naysayers while hoisting a championship trophy. His wife, Christina, did her part to defend her husband from further attacks on his integrity this week.

Ryan Day does NOT dye his beard!

Or so says Christina Day. On Monday, she reposted a video of Clay Travis calling her husband untrustworthy and inauthentic while setting the record straight.

As Travis notes, opposing fans often cite Ryan Day’s misleading beard color as a way of proving his dishonesty. It’s a jab at his character. If he’s willing to deceive the entire world with his fake facial hair, what’s to stop him from lying on a recruiting trip or being shady in NIL or transfer portal dealings?

The rumor has been discussed and debated at length over the last few years. His beard is unusually dark, especially for a 46-year-old man.

Many have questioned the legitimacy of that hair color. Others have simply taken note of how dark it seems to stay – despite some rather stressful outcomes in seasons past.

Interestingly enough, Day was asked about this very topic on a radio show this weekend. He, too, denied the claims.

“No, [I’ve never had to worry about dying my beard]. But there’s plenty of grays in there, you just can’t see them. Try being the head coach at Ohio State long enough and you’re going to have plenty of grays. People say that all the time. We just laugh.”

Christina Day is shutting the narrative down. It was time to clear her husband’s name of the false accusations. Ryan Day does not dye his beard! We’ve now heard it from the horse’s mouth.
