Ahead of his fight, Garcia spoke to the media and insisted that he’s turned his life around and stopped doing drugs and drinking alcohol, which caused issues for him in the past.

“I’ve been working with my family in therapy, I’ve been in the spotlight for a long time, I’ve been at the wrong parties, the wrong scene. Didn’t respect myself as an athlete, but this is why I’m giving myself the best chance to be the best version of Ryan Garcia.”

Garcia also apologized for going on racist rants on social media last year.

“We were f—ed up, drunk, high on shrooms, and we got on life, and we started saying anything. My mind was out of it…I ended up saying stupid sh– on live and I do regret it, and I am sorry for those actions, but I feel like I made my changes and I got clean, but that doesn’t represent me as a person. I want everyone to know that.”

During his media session, Garcia said that he would apologize to George Floyd’s family.
