It’s not really a secret that football isn’t the safest sport in existence, and as Andrew Luck recently highlighted, it can take one hell of a toll on a human body that wasn’t exactly designed to deal with collisions with giant men running at high speeds.
In 2017, Ryan Shazier highlighted just how dangerous the sport can be when he suffered a debilitating spine injury while attempting to make a tackle during a Monday Night Football game.

The Steeler was rushed to the hospital to undergo surgery, and after the procedure, there was some speculation that he would never be able to walk again.
However, the linebacker begged to differ.
It didn’t take long for Shazier to start the rehabilitation process, and over the past year-and-a-half or so, he’s consistently provided us with updates concerning the impressive progress he’s made so far.
On Sunday, we got our latest update on the situation when Shazier appeared on the field before the Steelers’ preseason game against the Titans, where he looked pretty damn good while walking around and catching some balls.
Ryan Shazier was told he had a 20% chance of walking again.

At this point, it’s unclear if Shazier will ever be able to return to the field for an actual game, but when you consider how far he’s come since that fateful day in December, it doesn’t sound as crazy as it once did.
