  • The Tennessee Titans have a bunch of new faces in their passing game
  • One of those new faces is already impressing his starting quarterback
  • Ryan Tannehill has been praising rookie tight end Chig Okonkwo

The Tennessee Titans offense has gone through a ton of changes this offseason. The team didn’t re-sign Julio Jones. They didn’t re-sign Anthony Firkser. They traded away AJ Brown.

To replace those players, the Titans traded for Robert Woods, spent a 1st round pick on Treylon Burks, signed Austin Hooper, and spent a 4th round pick on Chig Okonkwo. With all of these changes, there is plenty of room for one of these receivers to try and establish themself as Ryan Tannehill’s favorite target.

It was expected that Treylon Burks or Robert Woods would be the player to quickly establish a rapport with the Titans’ veteran quarterback, but it’s actually Okonkwo who has been receiving praise from Tannehill.

“Chig’s done a great job for us,” Tannehill said, via the team’s website. “He’s made some big strides this spring. I’m proud of the way he’s come in, learned what to do, and we’ll continue to push him on that. But just physically, to see his size, his strength, his speed, how he’s able to play through contact, he definitely gives us another weapon.”

Okonkwo will have to really impress if he wants to pass Hooper on the Titans’ tight end depth chart, but he has reportedly been making a big splash in red zone drills.

There are plenty of targets available in the Titans offense heading into the 2022 season and it appears Okonkwo may already be carving out a share for himself.
