Ryoyu Kobayshi became the first Japanese ski jumper to win an Olympic gold medal on the normal hill since 1972 on Sunday. The 25-year-old has dominated the 2021/22 season and his hard work paid off in Beijing.

One of Kobayashi’s old workouts has since gone viral and it’s absolutely insane. The amount of concentration and balance that is required to complete his workout is something that the common man simply could not handle.

The video shows Kobayashi in 2017 completing a bizarre, extremely difficult obstacle course of hurdles, balls, balance boards, and even weight-walking. Take a look:

Clearly Kobayashi’s hard work paid off. Five years later, he is a gold medalist.

After cracking the top-10 in Pyeongchang in 2019, he racked up 26 World Cup wins in four years and established himself as a standard-setter. However, he had not proved himself on the Olympic stage.

That all changed on Sunday.

Kobayashi took the lead with a 104.5-meter jump, the longest of the first round, worth 145.4 points. It was 6.2 points better than anyone else.

He then went on to seal the gold medal in the evening’s final jump.

Kobayashi raised his point total to 275.0 which edged Austria’s Manuel Fettner by 4.2 points. Poland’s Dawid Kubacki finished with the bronze medal in third.

It was a strong showing for the Japanese-native and his success surely stems from the impressive training that he puts in during the offseason. Kobayashi is simply built different.
