Update:

The Saints are expected to sign running back Kareem Hunt and linebacker Anthony Bar, per ESPN’s Dianna Russini.

Original Story:

The New Orleans Saints are actively exploring possibilities with two seasoned free-agent players during the pre-season Training Camp phase.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Dianna Russini have reported that running back Kareem Hunt and linebacker Anthony Barr are currently getting worked out by the Saints.

The Saints will workout Hunt probably in response to the suspension of their top running back, Alvin Kamara, who will be sidelined for the first three games due to an incident from last February.

Adding to their challenge, backup Eno Benjamin recently suffered a torn Achilles, leaving the Saints with a noticeable void in their running back depth.

If the deal materializes, Hunt could potentially provide fantasy football value alongside veteran Jamaal Williams and rookie Kendre Miller. However, it’s important to note that his role may diminish upon the return of Alvin Kamara in Week 4.

Anthony Barr, who played for the Cowboys last season, recorded 58 tackles, two tackles for loss and one sack in 14 games.

The former Minnesota Viking first-round pick boasts a history as a four-time Pro Bowler during his tenure there.

While Barr’s recent years were plagued by injuries, he could potentially provide valuable depth to the Saints’ linebacker corps if the team decides to secure his services.

As the pre-season progresses and Training Camp unfolds, the Saints are diligently assessing the potential of these two veteran free-agents to strengthen their roster and fortify their positions for the challenges ahead in the 2023 season.
