The New Orleans Saints have decided to bolster their linebacker corps by signing former Pro Bowler Jaylon Smith, according to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz.

Smith, a second-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2016 NFL draft, showcased his talent during a workout session with the Saints today.

Smith’s football journey has been marked by both highs and lows. The linebacker was a standout performer, earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2019 while donning a Cowboys jersey.

His talent on the field led to a lucrative 5-year, $64 million contract with the Cowboys, which included an impressive $35.5 million in guaranteed money.

However, his Cowboys career took an unexpected turn in 2021 when they made the decision to release Smith.

Smith continued his professional career with stints at the Green Bay Packers and the New York Giants.

His tenure with the Giants, which spanned until the 2022 season, saw him as a consistent starter in 11 out of the 13 games he participated in, demonstrating his prowess with a total of 88 tackles.

The addition of Jaylon Smith to the Saints’ roster is expected to inject experience and depth into their linebacker unit.
