Sam Leavitt quiets injury concerns with massive weight gain.

Sam Leavitt will be a load to bring down for SEC defenders in the coming season. The LSU quarterback looked like a new person in his first public appearance in Baton Rouge.

Leavitt revealed the true reason he chose the Tigers after transferring out of Arizona State. He wanted to put in the work at a new school that presented a challenge. It seems he’s done just that.

Leavitt has added weight over the offseason despite injury concerns. His coach says he’s moving ahead of schedule. He is expected to be at 100% in Week 1.

Sam Leavitt is jacked.

The passer was one of the biggest names on the transfer market in 2026 after two star-studded seasons in Tempe. Leavitt threw for over 4,500 yards across 20 games as a starter. He led the Sun Devils to the College Football Playoff in 2024.

His redshirt sophomore campaign was cut short by health setbacks. A lingering foot injury ended his year after seven games. The signal caller had surgery in November. He hit the portal a month later.

Leavitt suffered the initial injury in September. He battled through it for four weeks. Eventually, the pain proved too much to overcome.

Despite the setback, he was a hot commodity for transfer suitors. A bidding war waged on as he searched for his next home. LSU eventually won out.

Lane Kiffin was asked about Leavitt’s health this week in Louisiana. He says the quarterback is ahead of schedule.

“Sam’s doing great,” the coach said. “He’s coming back from a foot injury. He’s full strength, now it’s just about getting the timing down…

“Health-wise, he’s in really good shape. He’s been grinding in there to get back faster than they even had him on track.”

Leavitt’s appearance would support that claim. The passer is 11 pounds heavier than he was a year ago. His Arizona State bio listed him at 205 pounds in 2025. He’s now up to 216 at LSU. The transformation is evident.

On Thursday night, Leavitt made his first public appearance since landing in Baton Rouge. He broke his silence on his recruitment. NIL was not the only factor.

LSU is different.

Sam Leavitt admitted to being comfortable at Arizona State. He built great relationships while winning a lot of football games. He says he wanted to challenge himself with a change.

“I wanted to do something a little bit different,” he said this week at an event in LSU’s practice facility. “You talk about trying to be a pro and becoming the best version of yourself. There’s no better place to do it.”

Leavitt talked about the work he’s put in this offseason. In doing so, he quieted injury speculation.

While it’s been reported that his Lisfranc injury occurred during a game vs. Baylor, rumors surfaced that it was actually suffered during a game of pickup basketball. Coach Kyle Dillingham laughed off the insinuation, but the whispers have been further fueled by former teammates.

The injury and his recovery continue to be top of mind in both Baton Rouge and Tempe.

Whatever the case, Leavitt is looking ahead to the future. He is 100% according to his head coach. He made the weight room a priority. It should pay dividends for the Tigers in 2026.
