Last night, the New York Giants addressed their need for a new franchise quarterback by selecting Saquon Barkley with the second pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, which seemed like a bit of an aggressive move when you consider Barkley made a name for himself as a running back at Penn State. While Giants fans followed in the age-old tradition of tearing into the team for their every decision they make, something tells me Barkley won’t mind getting paid millions of dollars and getting to live in New York.
After he was selected, Barkley fielded a question about what he was going to do when he cashes his in giant check, and he thankfully said he was going to make sure to save and invest his money instead of using it to pull a Steven Segal and create his own cryptocurrency. However, he also admitted he was going give back to his parents by buying them a house— but he also has something special in mind for his dad, who sports a tattoo of the team the Giants share a stadium with.
First things @saquon is going to do with his money:
– Put some in savings
– Buy mom and dad a house
– Fix dad's "Jets" tattoo 😂 pic.twitter.com/73eok11Ur9— NFL on ESPN (@ESPNNFL) April 27, 2018
Bleacher Report pointed out a story by The New York Post where Barkley explains he grew up a huge Jets fan (he was born in the Bronx, and grew up outside Bethlehem, PA, which is roughly equidistant to Philadelphia and NYC). He’ll now have a chance to play against his childhood team, but he also wants to make sure his dad alters the Jets tattoo he got in order to make things a little less awkward.
