It looks like things could get ugly between Saquon Barkley and the New York Giants ahead of the 2023 season.

Earlier this week, any chance of Barkley and the Giants agreeing to a contract extension officially went away, leaving the star running back to decide between playing this year on the franchise tag or not playing at all.

After the two sides didn’t reach a deal, Barkley indicated that just not playing is an option for him.

Today that possibility appeared to become a whole lot more likely.

Saquon Barkely removed the Giants from his social media bios.

The Saquon Barkley situation has been one of the tougher ones in the NFL this offseason.

He is coming off of a great season where he helped the Giants win their first playoff game since they won the Super Bowl back in 2011.

Barkley ran for 1312 yards and 10 touchdowns last season and added another 338 yards receiving.

After that impressive season, Barkley watched a couple of his teammates get huge extensions from the Giants.

Daniel Jones got a 4 year, $160 million deal after the first good season of his career. Dexter Lawrence got a 4-year deal of his own after earning a spot on the All-Pro 2nd Team last season.

Meanwhile, it seems Saquon couldn’t even get the Giants to commit to extending his contract to include a second year.

If this social media move is a sign that Barkley intends to hold out, there could be some options out there for the Giants.

There are some big names available in free agency and there could be more once teams start making pre-season cuts.

Whoever they could bring in wouldn’t offer the ceiling that Barkley does, but they would definitely be a lot cheaper.

Right now, cheap seems to be the direction the NFL is moving in when it comes to running backs and it looks like that has created a big issue in the relationship between Saquon Barkley and the New York Giants.
