A scary moment unfolded for Rams’ head coach Sean McVay on Sunday after he took a shot to the head on the Los Angeles sidelines. The coach was seen in visible discomfort after being struck by the helmet of one of his own players.

McVay didn’t see one of his Rams players running off the bench as he walked down the field. As special teamer Roger Carter, Jr. strapped his helmet on to join the punt team, he inadvertently crossed paths with his head coach. The result was a collision at full speed that nearly knocked Sean McVay to the ground.

The incident was completely unintentional, but it definitely shook McVay up. He was spotted holding his bruised jaw moments after the fact, grimacing from the blow to the head.

The friendly fire even had folks wondering if he needed to hit the concussion protocol before finishing out the game. Fans were quick to react to the incident on social media, posting their responses on Twitter.

One fan wrote, “It’s been that kind of year for Sean McVay.” It certainly has as the Rams are just 3-7 following last season’s Super Bowl run.

Another person commented, “The Rams are so injured that even Sean McVay is getting hurt.” Los Angeles has seen a number of notable injuries this season, including setbacks to stars like Cooper Kupp and Matthew Stafford. Those injuries have drastically stunted the team in their championship defense.

Unfortunately for Sean McVay, things on the field are going about as bad as his day on the sidelines. The Rams currently trail Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs by a score of 10-3 with his offense continuing to struggle under the leadership of backup quarterbacks.
