Seattle Seahawks fans hold up a flag before the Super Bowl LX trophy presentation at Lumen Field. Seattle Seahawks owner Vinod Khosla looks on from the sideline in the second half of the game against the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium.
The Seattle Seahawks have one of the loudest, most passionate fan bases in the entire NFL. In fact, the fans are so passionate that they’ve even garnered their own nickname, the “12s.”
So surely new team owner Vinod Khosla, who purchased the reigning Super Bowl champions for a record $9.612 billion from the estate of Paul Allen in August, wouldn’t dare think about moving the team out of Seattle, right?
Well, Khosla’s messaging on the matter has been far from consistent.
Vinod Khosla Says ‘Never Say Never’ When It Comes To Moving Seahawks
In an interview with Dan Primack of Axios, Khosla was asked if he would formally commit to keeping the team in Seattle long-term.
Rather than giving a simple “yes,” Khosla said this instead:
“I will never say never. Will this team be in Seattle 500 years from now? But I have no current plans to change anything about the team, including the coach, president, operations, or Lumen Field. It all functions well.”
Needless to say, that immediately raised concerns among Seattle sports fans who already saw their beloved Sonics leave for Oklahoma City.
Khosla Is Now Walking That Comment Back
Khosla’s comments immediately went viral in the Seattle sports world, and he was met with immense backlash. Perhaps that’s why he took to social media on Saturday and changed his tune.
To all @Seahawks fans and @12s, we have no plans to move the team, have never discussed it, haven’t even thought about it. End of story,” he posted on X. “I’ve said repeatedly we have no plans to change anything. Feel sad for the reporters looking for views and clicks who distort my answer out of context and sent an entire city into a spiral for no reason.”

I’m not really sure how Primack transcribing the answer as it was spoken is considered distorting Khosla’s answer. But that’s his story, and he’s sticking to it … for now.
“Why don’t you just say “never” then?” one fan asked. “Why bother giving yourself an out? You’ll be hated in the city regardless if you do.”
That’s a very fair question. So, are the Seahawks leaving Seattle? It doesn’t appear they will be anytime soon. But hey, never say never.
