Things got ugly during a heavyweight football showdown between Texas and Georgia over the weekend. Angry Longhorns fans were seen throwing trash onto the field after a pass interference call went against the defensive unit.
The SEC has since made it their mission to punish offenders for their actions on Saturday night. They’ve also threatened to ban alcohol sales in Austin.
The threats stemmed from a second-half penalty that went against the home team. Upset with the call, as well as a 23-8 deficit, attendees began chucking water bottles and beer cans at the officiating crew.
For what it’s worth, the tactic seemed to work, as the referees later overturned the call with the environment becoming more and more hostile.
The conference has since released a statement on its punishment for the Texas football program.
Included was a $250,000 fine, as well as a plan to identify fans in the stands.
Also included? A potential alcohol ban!

“If cans or bottles are used as projectiles or otherwise cause game management issues, the institution is subject to an immediate fine and suspension of the alcohol sales privileges,” the statement read.
“The Conference is not suspending alcohol sales privileges for the University of Texas at this time but reserves the right to do so if other requirements outlined above are not met.”
The league’s not messing around!
Alcohol sales not only make the gameday experience more enjoyable for a number of patrons, but they also bring in big bucks for the university.
If fans can’t control themselves, though, they could have the right to have a drink during the game revoked!
