Shaka Smart led Marquette basketball to its 20th win of the season on Wednesday night. As a result, he owes a student named August two tickets to the next home college basketball game against Xavier.

And if the Golden Eagles win on Sunday, that debt carries over. It will continue to do so until they lose.

The agreement comes as part of a cool promise to August earlier this week.

Smart, in his third season with Marquette, spent Tuesday afternoon on the ‘Shaka Shuttle.’ The 46-year-old drove around campus on a golf cart and gave students a ride to class.

August was one of the students who was randomly selected to catch a lift and it ended up being his lucky day! Not only did he get to meet the head basketball coach, he landed tickets to the team’s four remaining home games. Maybe. At the very least, he will get tickets to two games.

The unique proposal came to exist after August revealed his lack of student tickets. Smart quickly offered him the chance to attend Tuesday’s game against DePaul before taking it one step further.

So long as the Golden Eagles keep winning, Smart will get August tickets.

Marquette won on Wednesday with August in attendance, which means that he will have tickets waiting for him when the Musketeers roll into the Fiserv Forum this weekend. Should his team win again, August will have tickets to next Wednesday’s game against Providence. Should they win that game, August will have tickets to watch the Golden Eagles try and take down the reigning national champion UConn Huskies in their final home game on March 6.

Smart did not clarify whether his promise will continue into the postseason. However, should August lead Marquette to victory over the next four games in Milwaukee, it would be hard not to make arrangements for the Big East Tournament! Right?
