Georgia State football coach Shawn Elliott was not happy with his team’s performance following a loss to James Madison. The coach blasted his players, coaches, and himself after the fact.

Elliott ended with a Tim Tebow-like message in closing. We’ll see if the now viral rant has a positive effect on his squad.

The Panthers took on the conference rival Dukes over the weekend, falling 42-14.

Georgia State hung around in the first half, trailing just 14-7 at the midway break. They’d be outscored 28-7 over the final 30 minutes in the blowout loss.

Elliott wasn’t happy with that second half effort, and he let it be known in his postgame press conference.

“It’s pretty obvious that we got our a– kicked today,” Elliott led. “James Madison’s a good football team coming in here undefeated. Best defense in the league, all that stuff. You would’ve thought we would’ve shown up to the doggone party today.

“We fought for a little bit, but we didn’t fight for four quarters… It was a poor execution by me as a head football coach, poor execution by our entire staff, it’s poor execution by our players, poor execution by our entire football program.”

His fire and intensity continued to build the further he got through that interview. It was almost as if he was riling himself up, replaying the game for a second time in his head.

Fans loved the emotion of the head coach, leaving their reactions to the presser below the post.

“I wish more press conferences were like that.”

“I appreciate you, coach. Love the passion.”

“I love this energy from a head coach.”

“That’s a passionate guy… I like that he put himself out there first and foremost before mentioning anyone else.”

Elliott then did his best Tim Tebow impression for reporters with his closing statement.

“It’s the last time we will play like that!” Elliott exclaimed. “The last time!”

We’ll see if the message gets through to his players this week.
