Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are the two biggest names of the incoming rookie class in the NFL. They both pat the ball before they throw.

GASP!

Are the Tennessee Titans going to regret their pick because of the habit? Probably not. Ward disproved all of the criticism surrounding Sanders while Will Levis picked his nose at minicamp earlier this week.

If you have no idea what I am talking about, let me explain. There were (and are) a lot of people who thought (and still think) the son of Deion Sanders is going to be a bust in the NFL. Some of them don’t like his attitude. Others question his arm strength.

However, the biggest point of emphasis during the pre-Draft process was Sanders’ habit of patting the ball before he cocks back to throw a pass. It was talked about at nauseam after his Pro Day. New York Jets safety Andre Cisco said the ball pat will allow NFL secondaries to tear him apart because they are “breaking onnat earlyyyy.”

Michael and Marcus Vick do not see the ball pat as an issue. Kyle Brandt was exhausted by the discourse.

Maybe the Cleveland Browns will ask Shedeur Sanders to change his motion and stop patting the ball. Maybe they will work together on a way to reduce the time between pat and release. I see the argument to why it could be an issue. I don’t totally agree with Cisco’s assessment, but I heard where he is coming from.

However, Sanders is not the only quarterback to pat the ball. Not only did guys like Tom Brady do so in the past, the No. 1 overall pick does so now. Cam Ward pats the ball in a new video from minicamp.

Where is the outrage? Is nobody concerned that Ward does the exact same thing as Sanders?

There is a glaring double standard here between the two quarterbacks. For one it is a problem. For the other it is not something that anyone cares to discuss. Why is that? I don’t know!

Regardless of the answer to that hypothetical question, Will Levis was caught picking his nose during Ward’s rep. Credit to him for showing up but the Titans did him dirty with that specific video clip. I cannot help but laugh even though it has nothing to do with the conversation about the ball pat. Brutal.
