Joe Kelly’s wife was not wearing a bra when Shohei Ohtani pulled up to their house in Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon. It is unclear as to why, but she made that explicitly clear!
Shohei Ohtani, who signed with the Dodgers on the largest single contract in sports history earlier this month, was grateful for Ashley Kelly’s viral recruiting campaign. He gifted her with a brand-new Porsche to express his gratitude.
Ashley and Joe celebrated a decade of marriage at the end of November. She went to work not long thereafter.
Joe Kelly, a (fairly controversial?) reliever, used to wear No. 17 for the Dodgers. That was Ohtani’s number with the Angels.
In turn, Ashley offered up her husband’s jersey and started the #Ohtake17 campaign in effort to get the two-way Japanese superstar to sign with his team. Mrs. Kelly went all-out!
Ashley recruited Ohtani with every piece of No. 17 clothing in their house and even showed off a ‘Zaddy 17’ sweater that she was going to wear upon his arrival. She even jokingly changed their seven-month-old son’s name from Kai to ShoKai.
Ohtani single-handedly signed with the Dodgers because of Ashley’s efforts.
It had nothing to do with the money, the international media market, or the opportunity to play for a legitimate World Series contender. It had everything to do with #Ohtake17.
Due to Ohtani’s arrival, Joe Kelly is changing his number to 99. Ashley announced the swap while boasting about the monumental MLB signing on Instagram. To say that she was pumped while throwing all of her husband’s old memorabilia out on the lawn would be an understatement!
Although Ashley’s campaign was mostly for comedic purposes, it paid off in a big way. Ohtani arrived to their home and gifted her with a brand-new Porsche for Christmas.
Pretty cool move from the highest-paid athlete in the world!
