Former Shohei Ohtani interpreter Ippei Mizuhara is perhaps the premier example of the phrase “f around and find out” after pleading guilty to bank fraud and subscribing to a false tax return.

Now Mizuhara, who once had a cushy gig with the Los Angeles Dodgers and was seemingly living large, is working as a driver for Uber Eats according to the New York Post.

“He was spotted recently delivering Uber Eats in the Los Angeles area,” according to Jared Schwartz.

Despite his connection and reported close relationship with Mizuhara, Major League Baseball recently cleared Ohtani of any wrongdoing.

“Based on the thoroughness of the federal investigation that was made public, the information MLB collected, and the criminal proceeding being resolved without being contested, MLB considers Shohei Ohtani a victim of fraud and this matter has been closed,” Major League Baseball said in a statement on Tuesday.

Shohei Ohtani Is Still Raking Despite Ippei Mizuhara Gambling Scandal

Ohtani laid to rest any concern that the scandal might affect his on-field performance with a stellar start to the season.

He’s hitting .322 with 15 home runs and 40 RBIs in his debut season with the Dodgers.

Ohtani ranks:

  • Third in Major League Baseball in batting average
  • Fourth in slugging percentage
  • Eighth in home runs
  • Fourth in OPS+

Oh, and it appears that the Japanese superstar has added another element to his game. He ranked ninth in all of baseball with 14 stolen bases.

Not everyone believes Ohtani is innocent, however. Disgraced forced NBA ref Tim Donaghy said recently that he believes Ohtani was gambling on his own games.

“Yeah, there’s no doubt in my mind that he not only bet on baseball, he bet on Ohtani’s games,” Donaghy said. “And I think Ohtani was right there with him, knowing what he was doing.”

Donaghy is banned for life from the NBA for fixing games which he refereed.
