Skip Bayless put the jinx on the San Francisco 49ers Monday night during their loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Twice in the fourth quarter of action was the “Undisputed” host seen posting about the Niners’ comeback chances.
Twice did those comeback bids end with Brock Purdy interceptions.
The 49ers and Vikings battled in the final game of the Week 7 slate with Minnesota taking home a 22-17 victory. In that NFC contest, the Vikes jumped out to a 19-6 lead before holding on for the one-score win.
San Francisco mounted a number of fourth quarter comeback attempts, but ultimately fell short.
A Christian McCaffery touchdown got the Niners within five points late in the third quarter before Minnesota extended that lead to eight on a Greg Joseph field goal.
San Fran answered with a field goal of their own on the following possession before forcing a Vikings punt. The 49ers got the ball back with a change to take a late lead, prompting Skip Bayless to throw out the jinx.
“This is over. 49ers survive, 24-22,” Bayless posted on his X timeline.
Shortly thereafter, Brock Purdy threw an interception to give Minnesota the ball back.
The Vikings would miss a field goal with just over a minute left to give the 49ers one last chance to take the lead. Again, Bayless was doing his best to provide an online hex.
“NOOOOOOO. The 49ers get another break. They’re about to go win this,” the second message read.
And again, it worked with Purdy throwing his second interception of the quarter.
Bayless is a known 49ers hater, and he went on to gloat following the San Francisco setback. At 5-2, they now have as many losses as the talk show host’s Dallas Cowboys.
A number of followers knew exactly what Bayless was doing with his social media activity.
“Oh, now I see why they lost.”
“Good job, Skip. You really did something here!”
“Clearly a jinx attempt that worked.”
“He’s out here trying to jinx teams/players, he’s such a hater.”
The jinx worked in this case with the 49ers losing a close one. Bayless’s magic might not be enough to help his Cowboys land a Super Bowl win, though.
