LaNorris Sellers ad creates accuracy concerns.

LaNorris Sellers is the most recognized player on the South Carolina football team. So, it was no surprise to see him marketed in an online ad posted in partnership with the school’s NIL trust.

That commercial showed Sellers participating in a passing competition, which is now being flamed by rival fans due to the quarterback’s struggles to throw the deep ball.

Does LaNorris Sellers have an accuracy issue?

As a fellow Gamecock, myself, I am not worried. The competition did not emulate gameplay. It is not a true illustration of his passing abilities. There are others who are concerned. The South Carolina media company appears to be one of them!

LaNorris Sellers ad backfires.

The 1801 Media Co. posted the ad in partnership with Sling TV. It showed Sellers completing a series of passing drills. The premise of the competition was simple. Hit standing targets at 15, 25, 35, and 50 yards.

One point for hitting the practice dummy. Two for hitting the Sling TV logo target.

Sellers breezed through the first three phases, landing two points each at 15, 25, and 35 yards. He did so in just four throws. He then went 0-6 at 50 yards. A few of the misses were not close.

It created a perception that LaNorris Sellers cannot throw the deep ball. I have seen the opposite in person.

Here’s a 50-yard dime under pressure vs. Texas A&M last season. He put it right in the breadbasket with a defender all over his wideout. There have been countless others across his two seasons as a starter, including his first ever TD.

Again, I am not worried.

There’s no doubt, however, that the video posted to social media Wednesday created some concern. The reaction was loud, but you might not be able to see it!

It would appear that the account is hiding negative comments about the South Carolina quarterback. It might be making matters worse.

A quick scroll through the quoted reposts shows a 50/50 mix of responses blasting both the passer’s accuracy and the account’s cowardly antics.

Comments on a LaNorris Sellers ad are being removed.

In the 10 minutes between initial screenshot and the completion of his post, 1801 Media Co. has cleared the comments section. It is an overreaction.

The LaNorris Sellers ad backfired due to his inability to hit a target 50 yards away. I would like to think rational fans understand that struggles in a fun NIL video don’t equate to accuracy issues.

Sellers will be just fine this fall. The South Carolina media site’s push to silence critics is making it a bigger deal than it needs to be.
