Southern Miss Football Coach Pulls Ultimate Bro Move, Uses Booster Funds To Hook Up All Of His Senior Players

University of Southern Mississippi head coach Todd Monken was just named this year’s Conference USA Coach of the Year, but that’s not even the coolest thing he did this year. The Southern Miss head coach used funds donated to the football program (booster $$$) to purchase suits for all 18 of his senior players so they’d have something sharp to wear to their first job interviews upon graduation, and since players can receive gifts in value up to $425 this was NOT an NCAA violation.

AJC.com reports:

Southern Miss football coach Todd Monken was recently named C-USA Coach of the Year, and here’s one reason why that might be: He recently bought all 18 of his senior players suits to wear for their first job interviews.
“I’ve always thought, ‘What could we do for our departing seniors that they can take with them?'” Monken told the Hattiesburg American. He wanted the players to have something more than just their memories and said the suits were for their entry into the professional world, according to the report.
The money for the suits came from funds donated to the program, Business Insider said.
The outfits were not against NCAA violations, since seniors can receive up to $425 in gifts, Yahoo Sports reports.
This was actually Monken’s second year outfitting his departing seniors, the American reports.

This is such a fucking bro move I can’t even handle it. These are players who spent 4 or 5 years completely busting their asses for this guy AND who were unable to work outside of football to put $$$ in the bank for after college. They hit graduation and have D-1 football on their resumés but they have no money to prepare them for the real world.

To the coach this is a no-brainer, the money’s there from the boosters waiting to be used. Yet you never hear about any of the top tier coaches doing this for their players. I just love everything about this.
