As Spencer Rattler tries to prove the haters wrong at South Carolina, the former five-star quarterback is putting in work. After a tumultuous 2021, Rattler appears to have his sights set toward the future and his arm looks as strong as ever.

Rattler, who was the No. 1 pro-style quarterback in the Class of 2019, has undeniable talent. He was the Elite 11 MVP and the first-ever Arizona quarterback to surpass the 11,000-yard mark in his high school career. His highlight tape is full of ridiculous throws and lots of deep balls.

After committing to Oklahoma, Rattler sat behind Jalen Hurts in 2019 before winning the starting job for 2020. In a COVID-19-shortened season, the 6-foot-1, 200-pounder led the Sooners to a Big-12 title, won the Cotton Bowl, and threw for 3,031 yards and 28 touchdowns with only seven interceptions.

He was immediately thrust to the top of the 2021 Heisman Trophy watchlist.

However, last year did not play out as he had hoped. After some early-season struggles and falling behind 28-7 to Texas, head coach Lincoln Riley turned to true freshman Caleb Williams off of the bench.

From that point forward, despite some turmoil, Williams was the starter. Even though he played only five complete games, he accrued more passing yards than Williams on the season.

Not long after the final regular season game, Rattler hit the transfer portal and committed to South Carolina. He will hope to regain his first-round NFL Draft status with a big year in Columbia this fall.

In the meantime, he is working to perfect his craft.

A video from a few weeks ago showed Rattler dropping dimes during a training session in Arizona. Now, a new video shows him putting in more time with his private quarterbacks coach Mike Giovando.

At one point during the workout, the players stopped to show off in a long ball contest. Rattler stepped up and casually flicked the ball 75 yards downfield.

To put that number in perspective, the NFL quarterbacks at the 2002 Pro Bowl — including Tom Brady and Peyton Manning — didn’t hit that mark. Rattler did.

Now, weather conditions and all of that obviously play a factor, but Rattler’s innate arm strength is impressive. 75 yards on what was basically a two-step crow hop? Pretty damn good.
