Both Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr. Deborah Birx have been rockstars since they began addressing the nation and answering questions during White House briefings. While the concern of when sports may return to our lives is well down their list of worries right now, Dr. Fauci hopped on Instagram with Steph Curry on Thursday for a more informal, but still very educational discussion.

The two talked about the seriousness of the situation the United States currently finds itself in and Curry was also able to ask Dr. Fauci what exactly needs to happen, specifically what metric Dr. Fauci is looking at, in order for large gatherings like sporting events to take place again.

While the entire world has heard about ‘flattening the curve’ over the past few weeks, Dr. Fauci reiterated that that’s the top thing that needs to happen but also pointed out the fact that some regions around the U.S. are having a tougher time than others which makes things even more difficult.

“What you need is you need to see the trajectory of the curve start to come down,” Fauci said according to ESPN. “We’ve seen that in China, they went up and down, they’re starting to get back to some normal life. They got to be careful they don’t reintroduce the virus into China, but they’re on the other end of the curve. Korea is doing that, they’re starting to come back down. Europe, particularly Italy, is in a terrible situation, they’re still going way up. The United States is a big country, we have so many different regions.

New York City right now is having a terrible time and yet there are places in the country that are doing really quite well.

So a direct answer to your question, we can start thinking about getting back to some degree of normality when the country as a whole has turned that corner and start coming down. Then you can pinpoint cases much more easily than getting overwhelmed by cases, which is what’s going on in New York City.”

Curry also mentioned that he had been tested for the virus despite the fact that the Warriors had previously announced that nobody on the team had taken the test because nobody had any symptoms.

Curry had flu-like symptoms two days before the NBA suspended its season and was tested for the flu, but also received a test for the virus. He noted that he got a test ‘pretty much right away.’
