There’s Nothing Better Than Watching Steve Kerr Waiting For Reporters To Tweet Out His Quotes

NBA

Despite his reputation as a crotchety old man, I would argue that San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich is consistently the most entertaining coach in the NBA (in addition to being one of the league’s most generous tippers). However, based on what Steve Kerr has done over the past couple of weeks, it might be time for Popovich to watch the throne.

Press conferences are largely thankless affairs where reporters ask coaches a bunch of generic questions that most people don’t care about the answers to, and in the age of social media, the coaches are now forced to deal with extended moments of silence as reporters frantically post their quotes in pursuit of those sweet, sweet retweets.

Most coaches just canvas the room while waiting for the next question, but Kerr has come up with a few novel solutions to make the wait more bearable.

It all began a couple of weeks ago when Kerr fielded a question about Andre Iguodala. He made sure everyone had their phones ready, and after he answered, he bucked common decency by pulling out a pair of clippers and trimming his nails in a public place.

He followed up his first stunt last week by coming out to the table with a Rubik’s Cube in hand, which he proceeded to “solve” in the interim.

It doesn’t appear Kerr’s shenanigans will be ending any time soon. Yesterday, he began playing with a Slinky after announcing Omri Casspi would be starting for the Warriors.

What’s next? A Jacob’s ladder? One of those paper fortune tellers from middle school? Maybe a Game Boy Advance? I never thought I’d care about press conferences, but Kerr is turning the game on its head.
