The number of prop bets offered for the Super Bowl can honestly be overwhelming. You have the ability to bet on the result of the coin toss, the length of the National Anthem, and dozens upon dozens of player prop bets, but there’s one bet that everyone seems to be extremely interested in year after year, and that’s the color of the Gatorade tossed on the winning coach.
Like the coin toss and National Anthem bets, the Gatorade color prop bet is exciting for the most serious of gamblers to the most casual. It also keeps viewers, regardless of their rooting interest, intrigued throughout the entire game.
Last year, the Chiefs dumped orange Gatorade over head coach Andy Reid and that same color is the betting favorite at BetMGM for Super Bowl LV. Interestingly enough, yellow/green/lime has received the most action, in regards to tickets, for this year’s Super Bowl.
Here’s a breakdown of each color’s odds and the tickets and handles received for each:
Yellow/Green/Lime – 25% Ticket – 22% Handle
Orange – 21% Ticket – 26% Handle
Red/Pink – 20% Ticket – 20% Handle
Blue – 17% Ticket – 14% Handle
Clear/Grey/White – 9% Ticket – 9% Handle
Purple/Violet/Indigo – 8% Ticket – 9% Handle
According to Action Network, the last time the same color was seen in back-to-back years was 2010 and 2011, when the Saints and Packers went with orange Gatorade. Maybe we see that happen again Sunday night.
As for the color used by the Tom Brady led Patriots in years past, blue has been the favorite. New England dumped blue Gatorade on Bill Belichick in both 2015 and 2019, but opted for no Gatorade bath in 2017.
