The first official look at David Corenswet as Superman in James Gunn’s 2025 film Superman has been released.

Corenswet takes over the iconic role of the Man of Steel from Henry Cavill, who portrayed the character in 2013’s Man of Steel, 2016’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, 2017’s Justice League, and 2021’s Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

The reception to the photo certainly hasn’t been perfect, as many fans on the internet seemed to have the same thought: the picture looks like it was made by AI.

“I was scrolling through the timeline before I saw news accounts posting this and just skimmed over this, I thought it was an AI picture at a glance,” said one reaction to the photo on Twitter.

“I really am excited about this film and I love the casting, but it says a lot about the quality of the picture that I wholeheartedly thought it was AI for a few seconds,” said one tweet.

Corenswet, who will be 32 years old when Superman hits theaters in July 2025, is previously known for his work in series such as House of Cards, The Politician, and We Own This City, and films such as Pearl alongside Mia Goth. This year, Corsenwet will be seen starring in Twisters with fellow rising stars Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar Jones.

Set to be released on July 11, 2025, Superman — the first official entry in the new “DCU” franchise, which is being creatively spearheaded by Gunn — also stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

Additional cast members include Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, Anthony Carrigan, María Gabriela de Faría, Sara Sampaio, Skyler Gisondo, Terence Rosemore, Wendell Pierce, and Pruitt Taylor Vince.
