The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have one of football’s most unenviable tasks this offseason.

They have to replace the greatest quarterback in NFL history.

They began their efforts by signing Baker Mayfield this offseason, but fans are still left wondering what the future holds for the franchise at the position.

At a press conference today, their GM may have given a hint.

Jason Licht told reporters that the Bucs won’t be afraid to draft a quarterback in a couple of weeks.

“It’s the toughest position to find. It’s the most important position on the team. You know, you see teams that, in consecutive years, take them in the top 10. We have a known in Kyle (Trask), we have Baker, who’s had some great years, and now we’re hoping that he shows up here this year in that competition and that we get the best out of one of them or both of them. But I would not be afraid to take a quarterback, another quarterback, because might as well have another shot at it, so maybe not this year, but maybe in the future.”

The Buccaneers shouldn’t just be considering taking a quarterback in this year’s draft, they should be planning on taking one some time after day 1.

Right now, the Bucs only have Kyle Trask and Baker Mayfield on their roster at the position.

That doesn’t exactly sound like a secure future at the position. Baker is only under contract for this year and hasn’t had the best last two seasons.

Meanwhile, Trask is heading into his third season in the league and the Bucs still don’t seem ready to make him their starter, which doesn’t give us much reason to believe he’s ever going to be ready for that job.

The Bucs shouldn’t force a move to get a QB in the first round since they would be getting the 3rd option at best, but there are some intriguing options for them to look at after the 1st.

Hendon Hooker could be available for them in the 2nd round. Tanner McKee is an interesting prospect they can take in the 2nd or 3rd. Dorian Thompson-Robinson could even be an interesting option for them later in the draft.

Whoever it may be, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers need to add somebody to their QB depth chart that might be an option for them next season.
