NFL players constantly have to have their heads on a swivel, and that includes during team celebrations in the locker room. Take Titans’ offensive lineman Taylor Lewan’s word for it.

Lewan joined ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ on Tuesday afternoon and shared some insight into just how physical things can be during celebrations after a big win. It’s not just fellow players pushing and shoving one another in celebration, head coaches get in on the action too. According to Lewan, Tennessee head coach Mike Vrabel even lets the fists fly on occasion.

“Those [celebrations] are never planned,” Lewan explained. “Obviously Vrabel comes in, wants to be a calm, cool, collected guy and win with grace lose with grace type of attitude. But when you win a big one or two, you have to give him a little shove, that’s all it takes.”

“You give him a little shove, I’ve been punched in the face by Vrabel, by accident I’m assuming, about a dozen times since he’s been my coach. Every single one is welcome.”

With Vrabel being a former NFL linebacker himself, this story from Lewan about things getting intense during celebrations shouldn’t be too much of a surprise. Vrabel is also a big fan of getting in on the action during Titans’ practice and warmups as well, taking hits while holding a blocking pad, and getting his players fired up.

Before anyone gets upset with Vrabel punching Lewan, it’s obvious that he’s being a bit sarcastic with McAfee. Has Vrabel hit Lewan before? Yeah, probably, but Lewan doesn’t seem too upset about it, in fact, he welcomes that sort of celebration.
