Golden Tate had a little extra spring in his step when Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez were in town. Notre Dame’s former Biletnikoff Award-winning wide receiver remembers it like it was yesterday.

He shot his shot with the international superstar during practice, which apparently infuriated Brian Kelly.

The story came to light with a weird sequence on X, formerly known as Twitter. It started with Travis Kelce’s post from 2014, which resurfaced alongside many of his old posts throughout the week.

I really love Hockey… I haven’t stepped on the ice since I quit after playing 8 years… But that’s got to change! I miss it too much

A Boston College fansite associated with S.B. Nation suggested that Kelce could root for the Eagles based off of an old tweet from Taylor Swift.

Yes, Boston College, YES.

Notre Dame fans were immediately upset. They thought that Taylor Swift was theirs, because her brother attended the university and she often visited while he was there. They also hate B.C.

One particular photo of Swift and Selena Gomez on the sideline at a Fighting Irish game is pretty famous image in college football lore. They pulled up to the Purdue game in 2010.

Although Robby Toma got the exact day wrong, the photo led him to recall a hilarious story about Golden Tate. Toma caught passes in South Bend from 2009-2012.

He remembered back to when Swift visited one of their practices and told the story of how Tate shot his shot in the middle of the team period. Kelly was not pleased.

Tate, who played 11 years in the NFL, corroborated Toma’s story. The 35-year-old will never forget his aspirations of taking Swift to dinner on his meal plan.

Oh I remember it like yesterday. Prolly my best practice of the year. Every pass I caught on her side, I made sure finished as if it was a TD. I had dreams of taking her to South dining hall!

Tate is now married with three kids. Swift is dating Kelce.

Both parties have moved on from their brief, completely nonexistent past. Tate still remembers it well. It would be very funny to ask Swift if she recalls the time when the best wide receiver in college football got yelled at for hitting on her during practice.
