The Tennessee Volunteers basketball team knocked off rival Alabama on the hardwood Saturday night with a buzzer-beating shot. They trolled the Crimson Tide after the fact.

The Vols were seen recreating an Alabama tradition in celebration of the exciting victory. The home team’s rendition quickly went viral on social media.

It was a contest that went back and forth throughout with neither team being able to pull away. Tennessee grabbed an early lead before a late Tide first half run gave them the advantage at halftime.

While the Vols were able to even things up in the final minutes, hope was slim following a Mark Sears three-pointer with 2:05 remaining.

Alabama held a four-point lead with 36 seconds left to play. The wheels then came off for the visiting squad.

Tennessee’s Chaz Lanier made a quick layup to cut into the gap. A foul on the shot gave him a three-point play opportunity. He’d miss the free throw, but the Crimson Tide failed to box out.

Jahmai Mashack grabbed the board for the Vols and was quickly fouled. He sank a pair of shots from the charity stripe to tie the game.

Still, Alabama had a chance to hold the ball for the last shot. Best case scenario – buzzer beating win. Worst case – overtime. Neither would be the eventual outcome.

The Tennessee defense made a stand by creating a jump ball situation. It forced the Crimson Tide to inbound under the basket. Alabama’s inbounder was hit with a five-second violation after failing to get the ball to a teammate despite his team having two timeouts.

The Vols took over. Fireworks followed.

Mashack, who’d previously secured that offensive rebound to allow Tennessee to tie the game, sank a three at the buzzer for the win. The roof came off of the Food City Center in Knoxville. As Alabama somberly exited the arena, the Volunteers trolled.

Tennessee basketball performed an explicit version of ‘Dixieland Delight.’

Typically, it’s the Tide singing the Alabama tune after wins over rivals. Tennessee turned the tables! Fans belted out the lyrics from the stands, with a particular emphasis on the ‘F— Bama” line.

The win could have major NCAA Tournament implications. Tennessee entered the night on the two-line in Joe Lunardi’s latest bracketology projections. Alabama was a one-seed.

With similar resumes and this head-to-head win, the two rivals might just flip spots. The victory also gives the Vols a chance to leapfrog the Crimson Tide in the SEC standings.

Alabama currently holds a slight one-game advantage but finishes the year with No. 3 Florida and No. 1 Auburn. Tennessee, meanwhile, plays unranked South Carolina and Ole Miss squads. They also now hold a potential tiebreaker.

The rivalry win was huge for the Vols in terms of postseason play. The program celebrated appropriately knowing the gravity of the situation.
