Houston Texans‘ starting cornerback, Derek Stingley Jr., is set to be sidelined for an estimated six to eight weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury during the final play of Wednesday’s practice.

The extent of the damage was determined through a MRI examination, as reported by KPRC2.

Despite the Texans’ challenging 0-2 start to the season, Stingley had been performing admirably, allowing only four receptions for 37 yards with no touchdowns on six targets in the first two games.

Derek Stingley Jr., the third overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, was selected just ahead of New York Jets’ standout cornerback Sauce Gardner. Stingley’s career however has been plagued by various injuries, and this recent setback adds to the list.

For the upcoming game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Stingley is expected to be primarily replaced by the Texans veteran cornerback, Shaquill Griffin.

The injury could also potentially lead to Stingley being placed on injured reserve, depending on the team’s evaluation.

The Texans will miss Stingley’s contributions on the field as they look to rebound from their disappointing start to the season.
