After a disastrous season last year that saw the Aggies finish 5-7 despite being ranked in the preseason top 10, coach Jimbo Fisher is firmly on the hot seat. And, on Monday, he announced the starting quarterback that he hopes can put him back in the good graces of Texas A&M fans.

Last season was a great example of Murphy’s law in College Station-everything that could go wrong, did. Many wanted Fisher fired. But, likely due to his huge contract with a ton of money remaining on it, he was brought back for another season.

One of the biggest issues last year was inconsistent quarterback play, which hampered the offense in general. Last year’s opening-day starter Haynes King really struggled, with a touchdown-to-interception ratio of just 7/6. LSU transfer Max Johnson was okay, while true freshman Conner Weigman impressed with eight touchdowns and no interceptions. But, that went along with a completion percentage of 55%

Jimbo Fisher hired the controversial Bobby Petrino as offensive coordinator at Texas A&M. For all of Petrino’s faults, he has been great with quarterbacks his whole career. And, he’s hoping he can help Connor Weigman, whom fisher named as starter.

Weigman was one of the top quarterbacks in the class of 2022, according to 247 Sports.
