There are few programs in college football that have been bringing in big names like the Texas Longhorns have recently.

Their 2023 recruiting class is loaded, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

They have Arch Manning, CJ Baxter, Johntay Cook, and Ryan Niblett joining the squad for the upcoming season, giving them 4 offensive recruits ranked in the top 75 with a QB, RB, and WR all in the top 30.

Now they’ve gone out and gotten themselves the top running back in the following year’s recruiting class.

5-star running back Jerrick Gibson revealed today that he is committing to play for the Texas Longhorns.

The Longhorns had quite a bit to overcome to land Gibson.

Gibson had quite a few offers from top programs around the country, including Miami, Georgia, and Tennessee. However, it wasn’t any of those schools that posed the biggest threat to the Longhorns’ ability to land Gibson.

Instead, it was the University of Florida who seemed like they had one big edge to get a commitment from the promising running back.

Gibson is from Tallahassee and recently revealed that it had been his dream to represent the Gators during his college career.

It looks like he has decided to put that dream aside for a chance to join a Texas Longhorns program that appears to be on the way up.

Jerrick Gibson may have a bit of a tough time getting touches early on in his career at Texas with Baxter already on the roster, but he should factor heavily into the offense once he starts getting the ball.

The Texas Longhorns sent two running backs to the draft this season with Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson. It looks like they could be trying to put together another roster with a pair of NFL-bound running backs.
