Texas Longhorns QB Shane Buechele Thanked The Doctor Who Botched His Father’s Vasectomy
True freshman Longhorns quarterback Shane Buechele shouldn’t even be alive, but thanks to his father’s failed vasectomy, he’s now leading the Burnt Orange to victory.
Buechele went 16 of 26 for 280 yards and two touchdowns against former tenth-ranked Notre Dame in the Longhorns’ stunning upset of the Fighting Irish, 50-47 in double overtime.
If you’re an avid reader of Sports Day, then you know about this interesting tidbit from their interview with Shane and his family, most of whom are Oklahoma Sooners fans:
“Shane became a Longhorn even though all four of his siblings are Oklahoma Sooner fanatics”
The brass cajones on this kid. Astounding.
Shane’s dad is Steve Buechele, a former baseball player now on the Texas Rangers coaching staff, who roomed with teammate John Elway while at Stanford.
“Elway teases Steve that he should have known Shane would be a quarterback by the way he “snuck in.”
He and his wife, Nancy, told Shane about the mistake “about two years ago” and Shane met the doctor who botched the procedure at his brother’s wedding. He shook the doctor’s hand while smiling and said, “Thank you very much.”
Turns out the doctor is a Longhorns fan.
“wouldn’t you know it? The Carters are Longhorns fans. Two of their kids went to Texas. Now the Carters jokingly wonder if they should get a kickback.”
That doc went from a possible lawsuit to being lauded with Hook ‘Em Horns hand gestures for the rest of his life. The fix is in. UT-Austin strictly signing miracle kids from now on.
