The first major championship of the year has finally arrived as 95 of the Top 100 players in the game of golf will tee it up at TPC Harding Park for the PGA Championship. As per usual, despite there being plenty of other intriguing storylines while also not being the favorite this week, all eyes are on Tiger Woods.

Woods has played in only four official events since October of last year including just once since the PGA Tour’s season resumed back in June – a T-40 finish at the Memorial – so there are a number of questions surrounding the big cat both from a playing standpoint and as per usual, a health standpoint.

There are doubts when it comes to Woods’ chances this week, but then again, this is an assumed to be healthy Tiger Woods teeing it up in a major championship, so there are reasons to be optimistic as well.

During his press conference on Tuesday afternoon, Woods was asked the simple question of whether or not he can win this week and the 15-time major champion gave the simple, confident answer of “of course.”

It’s no surprise to see Woods give that type of answer, pretty much every player in the field should have that same mindset, but he could have tip-toed and said something like “we’ll see,” but instead he went with the confident answer.

Woods is paired with Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy for the opening two rounds of the PGA Championship. The group will go off at 11:33 AM EST on Thursday and 4:53 PM EST on Friday.
