NFL legend Tom Brady knows a thing or two about winning NFL MVP’s, as he is a three-time winner of the award. And, the retired quarterback has declared who he thinks should be the league’s MVP this year.

Tom Brady thinks that San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey should win the NFL MVP award this season. Here’s NBC Sports Bay Area with more.

Tom Brady joined the conversation in a recent episode of his “Let’s Go!” podcast and was accompanied by 49ers All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey, whose name has been tossed into the MVP topic alongside teammate and San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy.

“I remember the first time I actually got a glimpse of Christian was in the Rose Bowl,” Brady said. “He caught an angle pass against Iowa and ran for about a 75-yard touchdown. I was like, ‘Well, they’re not gonna catch him!’ … He was a dynamic player then. He is a dynamic player now, and I think all of what he’s done this year is a lot what he’s done in the past. It’s a different team with some different opportunities and they’ve been really dynamic on offense.

“So he is definitely in my mind the MVP favorite and according to his quarterback too, Brock Purdy, who says some amazing things about him. … And I know you’ll say, because you’re a great team player, the Super Bowl is the only thing that really matters. With the offseason that the running backs have, do you kind of feel like an award like that would be pretty nice?”

Right now, it’s another San Francisco 49er that is the Vegas favorite to take home the award, in quarterback Brock Purdy. Purdy is currently around +200 to win the award, with Lamar Jackson being in second place at around +500 and McCaffrey at roughly +1200.

But even Brock Purdy himself thinks that Christian McCaffrey should win the MVP. When asked about the award after the team’s win over the Cardinals on Sunday, he said that it should go to his teammate, not Purdy.

I agree with both Tom Brady and Brock Purdy that it should go to Christian McCaffrey. The league leader in scrimmage yards is really who makes that awesome San Francisco offense go, and without him they would take a huge step backwards. When he was battling injuries and not playing at 100% in the middle of the season, the team lost three games in a row while only scoring 17 points in each game.

Still, there are three weeks left to play, and it seems like a lot of different players have been at the top of the odds this year. Anything could happen. Keep your eye on Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
