New York Giants third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito has become one of the biggest stories of the tail end of the 2023 season, as the rookie QB has led the G-Men back from the dead and to three straight wins.

The excitement surrounding DeVito was palpable Monday night in New Jersey, as the 25-year-old led the team to a last-second win over the Green Bay Packers.

Prior to the start of the Packers game, the DeVito family held a massive tailgate party that featured quite the spread: baked ziti, penne vodka, arancini, chicken cutlets, sausage and peppers, and more.

While DeVito didn’t necessarily light up the stat sheet against the Packers — he completed 17 of 21 passes for 158 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 71 yards on 10 carries — he played clean, mistake-free football that kept the Giants in the game long enough to execute a two-minute-drill drive that put them in position to kick a game-winning field goal.

Due to their win over the Packers, the 5-8 Giants now find themselves somewhat alive in the NFC playoff race as they sit just one game out of the seventh and final seed, which is currently occupied by Green Bay.

If the Giants are going to make the playoffs, they certainly face quite an uphill battle, as two of their final four games are against the Philadelphia Eagles, with the other two being against the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams.

So far this season, DeVito has completed 66% of his passes for eight touchdowns and three interceptions. At the very least, the former Syracuse and University of Illinois QB has staked his claim to be on the Giants’ roster next season.

Given the questions surrounding franchise QB Daniel Jones, DeVito could mess around and play his way to a quarterback competition at next summer’s training camp if he keeps this up.
