The New York Giants are in the playoff hunt. And, they have undrafted free agent rookie quarterback and local hero Tommy DeVito to thank for a three-game win streak that has the team at 5-8.

DeVito thrilled on Monday night, throwing a huge fourth-quarter touchdown pass and then leading the Giants on the game-winning drive as the G-Men beat the Packers, 24-22.

Take a look at this incredible touchdown pass to give the Giants a 21-13 lead.

With the team trailing 22-21 in the two-minute drill, DeVito calmly led the Giants down into field goal range with plenty of time to spare. A 32-yard completion to Wandale Robinson was the big play on the drive, and Randy Bullock knocked in a 37-yard field goal to give the team the win.

With that win, they’re now 5-8. Yes, that’s not a very good record. Normally, that record wouldn’t be anywhere near playoff contention. But, this year’s NFC is not very good outside of the top few teams.

Right now, it’s the 6-7 Packers in the final playoff spot. The Saints, Falcons, and Rams are also 6-7 and ahead of the Giants. Normally trying to make up a game and win the tiebreakers over that many teams would be difficult. But, the Giants just beat the Packers and play the Saints in Week 15 and the Rams in Week 17. That means, wins over those teams would also give them a potential head-to-head tiebreaker against the Rams and Saints, as well. all of a sudden, they’re very much alive when it comes to a possible playoff spot.

The other two games remaining are against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles are definitely a much better team than the Giants, but they have been playing very poorly the last few weeks. And, they could possibly be resting players in the Week 18 team game at MetLife Stadium. 9-8 would almost certainly get New York into the playoffs, but 8-9 stands a pretty good chance, too.

Even if they Tommy DeVito is a heck of a story. He was efficient once again, going 17-21 for 158 yards and a touchdown, while adding 71 yards on 10 carries.

The hometown kid is winning over everyone in Big Blue Nation. DeVito still lives with his parents in Northern New Jersey, just minutes from MetLife Stadium. The fact that he’s just some random Italian kid from North Jersey is playing incredibly well with a fan base that is, in part, made up of a lot of Italian people from North Jersey. It’s the Giants version of Linsanity, and it’s why sports are great.
