Tommy Fleetwood looks like a new man walking around TPC Sawgrass this week after making the decision to shave off his beard. Fleetwood and his Jesus-like beard have become synonymous with one another over the years, so what led him to shave it off?

He was in a bad mood, a really bad mood, which led him to the fresh-shave look at last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational.

While he didn’t give details about what put him in a bad mood, he explained that it was the beard or his golf clubs that were going to take the hit.

“I was in a really bad mood,” Fleetwood said, according to Golf Digest. “It was like break some golf clubs or shave my beard, then I went for the beard.”

“It was kind of in a mess, and I was going to shave it. Then I was sort of in a bad enough mood where I couldn’t be bothered putting the clipper on, like on number nine, so I just took it. It will grow back.”

Fleetwood’s New Look Bringing Good Mojo

So far, Fleetwood’s decision to change up his look has paid off at this week’s Players Championship.

Fleetwood has not played his best golf over the past year or so, but was able to grab a share of the lead at 6-under after the opening round at TPC Sawgrass.

The beard is, of course, growing back and it’s already about halfway back to its patented look. That’s music to his wife’s ears.

“She definitely has a preference, and it’s not this one,” Fleetwood said about his wife Clare’s thoughts on his new baby-face look.
