Tony Romo Explains Why He Keeps Calling Taylor Swift Travis Kelce’s Wife

No story has dominated the headlines over the course of the NFL season like the relationship between Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift, who (as far as we know) are not married. However, that didn’t stop Tony Romo from repeatedly referring to the singer as the tight end’s wife, and we finally know why that was the case.

As you probably know by now, Travis Kelce decided to shoot his shot at Taylor Swift after seeing her in concert last year, and that decision seemed to work out pretty well for him when you consider they appear to be fairly enamored with each other.

There are plenty of people who are convinced Kelce is gearing up to propose to Swift after the Super Bowl thanks to rumors concerning an impending engagement,  and while they haven’t tied the knot, that didn’t stop Tony Romo from calling her his wife during a game between the Chiefs and the Bills in December.

That was the first time the quarterback-turned-broadcaster deployed that term, but it wasn’t the last, as he pulled the same move a couple of weeks later before quickly correcting himself (although it seemed like there was a chance he was making light of his previous slip-up).

Was it an innocent mistake? Does Romo know something that we don’t? Is he a superfan of the celebrity couple who is simply attempting to manifest his hopes and dreams into existence?

Now, we have some insight courtesy of Romo himself, who got the chance to explain himself to CBS Sports, saying:

“It’s a joke. Someone did that to me back in the day…People come up to me all the time [asking], ‘What do you know?’ People love it and go crazy for it.”

Romo also got the chance to address the overblown blowback to the media coverage Swift (who lauded him with praise after the AFC Championship) has received while attending Chiefs games, adding:

“It’s Taylor. She’s just as big a personality as anybody in the world right now. I think it’s a great thing that she’s at football games. I think it just adds value, and I think our team does it the right way…It just comes out organically.”

We may end up living in a world where Romo will be able to correctly refer to Swift as Kelce’s wife, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
