Why Travis Etienne’s Massive Day Vs. Bills In London Is Actually A Bad Thing For Jaguars Running Back

Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. had a massive day in Sunday’s win over the Buffalo Bills. Unfortunately, it was also his demise.

Etienne, the No. 25 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, reunited with his former Clemson backfieldmate Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville. He missed all of 2021 after suffering a season-ending Lisfranc injury during his second preseason game, but bounced back in a big way with nearly 1,500 all-purpose yards as a rookie.

After a strong 2022 campaign, Etienne picked up right where he left off this season. The 24-year-old has amassed 260 yards on 69 carries through the first five games of the year.

His most recent performance in London was among his career best. Etienne averaged 5.2 yards per carry on 26 touches to run for 136 yards and two touchdowns while also hauling in four catches for 48 yards. The Jaguars would not have defeated the Bills without him.

Fantasy football owners who roster (and started) Etienne either got their Sunday off to a great start while watching their running back have himself a day or woke up to a nice surprise. Depending on scoring format, Etienne scored anywhere between 25 and 45 points. He likely finished around 30/35.

Unfortunately for Etienne, that was a bad thing. His fantasy football opponent this week just so happened to start… Travis Etienne.

I played against myself in fantasy fb today 😭

Every yard that Etienne gained across the pond put himself at a deficit in fantasy football. Obviously, a win in real life is much more important so it’s no big deal, but it’s still very funny.

Imagining Etienne celebrating the victory in the locker room, taking a shower, and getting back to the hotel — only to discover that his fantasy team was losing on account of himself is a hilarious mental image. Fantasy football is a fickle beast!
