Travis Hunter isn’t going to have to wait very long on Thursday night in Green Bay, Wisconsin to hear his name called during the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. The Heisman Trophy winner is going to go on the top five, and possibly as high as second-overall.
As it stood, the Colorado two-way superstar was set to take in his big day without his dad, Travis Hunter Sr. by his side in Green Bay. But, that’s all set to change, as his dad is going to be allowed to travel to Green Bay for the draft’s festivities.
Hunter, the top recruit in the country back in the Class of 2022, stunned everyone by flipping from Florida State on signing day to Jackson State to play for Deion Sanders. He followed Sanders to Colorado, and was dominant there, capturing the Heisman Trophy as well of a slew of other awards while dominating at both wide receiver and cornerback.
Is he going to be able to play both ways in the NFL? Who knows. But, that’s not stopping teams from loving what he brings to the table, for obvious reasons.
He’s one of the dozen-plus prospects attending the draft with family and friends in tow, but his dad wasn’t allowed to attend due to house arrest from a conviction on drug and weapons charges in Florida. That’s now not the case. Here’s the Palm Peach Post with more.
Travis Hunter Sr. was granted permission by the courts recently to travel to Green Bay for the NFL Draft. Hunter Sr., who lives in Boynton Beach where his son was raised, is scheduled to leave West Palm Beach the day before the draft and ordered to return Friday, the day following the draft, according to court documents.
Hunter Sr., 39, was sentenced to 90 days in late September 2024 stemming from a 2023 arrest on gun and drug charges. He was released from the Palm Beach County West Detention Center in Belle Glade nine days before the Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York but was unable to attend. He was placed on a three-year period of probation and ordered to complete the first year under home confinement.
While in Green Bay, Hunter Sr. is restricted to the grounds of the hotel other than attending the draft, which will be held at Lambeau Field. He was required to submit a full travel itinerary and schedule to his community control officer.
This seems like a well-thought-out solution for everyone involved.
