Earlier this week a recent clip of Jason Kelce went viral from the New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce (Presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment) podcast where Jason used colorful language to express how we, as Americans, have no time for kings.

The long and short of his quote was ‘f— kings’ as he went on to say that he’s American and here in America we do not do kings. He’s right about that. Our ancestors fought and won a war to ensure we don’t have to drink tea after lunch and suffer through mushy peas with every meal.

Jason Kelce‘s comment would’ve been forgotten overnight had Taylor Swift not then posted a photo of her and Travis with Prince William:

In that viral clip, Travis tried to shut Jason down from ranting about it. Clearly aware that they were about to meet the royals. But the encounter was addressed on this week’s podcast and Travis called Jason out for bowing down to the monarch.

Speaking about it, Travis said “they were absolutely a delight to meet. I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to bow to them, curtsy, just be an American idiot and shake their hands, like, ‘Sup, dude.’ We wanted to be polite.”

Jason Kelce knew the rules. He clarified that bowing wasn’t necessary because it wasn’t an official royal event. But Jason went on to say that he did “feel emasculated” and set his “beer, like, 10 feet away” to ensure he wouldn’t make a fool out of himself in front of Prince William.

Travis responded with “I’ve never seen you give someone that much respect.” And honestly, I love everything about this because it speaks to the impeccable character and manners of these brothers.

Yes, as Americans we are not beholden to worship a monarch. But we, as men, have an obligation to be polite, use great manners, and present ourselves in dignified manners when representing our friends, partners, family, and country and in this instance they both zhuzhed up their behavior to match the moment.

Had they blown the situation off as ‘f— kings’ that would have been a really bad look and they not only know that but it was never even a consideration as they’re both professionals on and off the field.
