Trent Dilfer Sounded Completely Checked Out During Bizarre Exchange After Yet Another UAB Loss

Trent Dilfer sounds completely checked out after yet another ugly UAB loss on Saturday. His tenure as a college football coach has not gone well thus far and there is no indication that it will get better.

In fact, the experiment will likely come to an end at the conclusion of this season, if not before.

Alabama at Birminham hired Dilfer in 2023 despite his lack of experience as a head coach above the high school level. It was touted as a brilliant, out-of-the-box move that would change the landscape of the sport forever by ESPN. Those who were skeptical of the decision were quickly proved right.

The Blazers went 9-4 in 2021 and had a lot of momentum for the future. However, head coach Bill Clark suddenly resigned due to health issues prior to 2022. Bryant Vincent took over as the interim and won seven games with a team that was not supposed to finish above .500.

Even though the players campaigned for Vincent to get the full-time job, UAB kicked him to the curb. It hired Dilfer on the heels of back-to-back state championships (and one angry tirade) at Lipscomb Academy in Tennessee.

Barring a miraculous turnaround over the next eight games, the Blazers are going to finish near (or at) the bottom of American Athletic Conference standings. They dropped to 1-4 in 2024 with a blowout loss to Navy after a 4-8 season in 2023.

Trent Dilfer is on the hot seat!

UAB would be silly to let this mess continue. Dilfer should not survive to see a third season at the helm unless he can somehow win five more games and a bowl game. Vincent did it!

To make matters worse, the former Super Bowl champion made a bizarre comment during his postgame press conference on Saturday. He lobbied for his children to sit next to him at the microphone while actively ignoring a question from a reporter because UAB is “not Alabama.”

It was super uncomfortable. Just listen…

Trent Dilfer looks and sounds completely checked out. His tone was off-putting. His body language, specifically the eye roll, was unbecoming.

UAB still has to play Tulane, Army, South Florida and Memphis. Six wins is probably out of the picture.

How much longer will Dilfer last?
