Travis Kelce Claims He Basically, And Wisely, Told The Cowboys Not To Draft Him

If there was ever a career that proves luck plays a major factor in success, it’s perhaps Travis Kelce’s.

Widely considered to be a lock for the Hall of Fame and one of the greatest tight ends to ever live, Kelce has had the benefit of catching passes from Patrick Mahomes for most of his career. This is, of course, not something that can be said of Antonio Gates or Greg Olsen.

Kelce’s career could’ve been much different, however, had he not screwed up his combine interview with the Dallas Cowboys, which could’ve resulted in him spending the bulk of his career playing with Dak Prescott.

During the NFL Combine over the weekend, the Kelce brothers’ New Heights podcast shared a clip on social media that sees Travis detailing his interview with the Cowboys in which he basically told them not to draft him.

“If you guys think I’m gonna be that kind of guy or you’re questioning if I’m still that person after everything that I’ve battled through to get to where I am now from missing a season, then you guys should probably go somewhere else and pick somebody else,” Kelce said of the Cowboys, who apparently “pressed him” about missing a year for a weed suspension

“And that’s exactly what they did,” he concluded.

In the 2013 NFL Draft, the Cowboys ultimately did select a tight end, although it wasn’t Kelce, as they drafted San Diego State tight end Gavin Escobar in the second round. Kelce would later be picked by the Chiefs in the third round.

Now, not only is Kelce considered to be a Mount Rushmore-level tight end, but he’s also become famous enough that he’s dating Taylor Swift, one of the biggest celebrities on the planet. You’ve got to imagine that catching check-downs from Dak in Jason Garrett and Mike McCarthy’s offenses might’ve changed that.
