Based on his comments last night, you’d be forgiven for wondering if Travis Kelce doesn’t know what an underdog is.
Following the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVII victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, a celebratory Kelce looked into the Fox cameras and yelled “not one of y’all said the Chiefs were gonna take it home this year.”
This, of course, is insane considering the fact that the Chiefs have played in the AFC Championship game every single year that Patrick Mahomes has been a starter, meaning they literally head into every season as one of the Top 2 favorites in the AFC. They’ve also played in three of the last four Super Bowls.
Needless to say, the NFL world wasn’t too receptive of Kelce’s “no one believed in us” shtick.

You’re right, Travis Kelce. Absolutely no one thought the Chiefs could win the Super Bowl. True underdog story

Not that he cares, but Kelce’s bizarre underdog comments resulted in him receiving a significant amount of criticism online:
That Kelce bit is the most artificial narrative ever. Idk why every team thinks they need to be perceived as an underdog. Just accept being the evil empire https://t.co/0ARvxuY4Nv

The Chiefs have been one of the betting favorites to win the Super Bowl for each of the last four years.
Travis Kelce can spare me this underdog nonsense.

Yeah, Kelce. No one picked the Chiefs. Perpetual underdogs. 🙄🤡

Heading into next season, the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs will undoubtedly be one of the favorites to win the title in 2024. Don’t tell Travis Kelce, though.
Kelce acting like the Chiefs are the biggest underdog in the history of the NFL to win the Super Bowl is quite the absurd storyline

Kelce: “not one of you said the Chiefs would win the Super Bowl”
My guy, you’re not exactly an underdog story lol— Owen Siebring (@owensiebring) February 13, 2023
Travis Kelce acting like the Chiefs were some huge underdog is just crazy revisionist history, he’s such a tool

Travis Kelce you’re not a damn underdog. Like please.

In Super Bowl LVII, Kelce posted six catches for 81 yards and a touchdown.
Travis Kelce ‘nobody respects us’ talk. Please. You’re the Chiefs. You have Mahomes, you, Andy Reid. Today is like the 4th time in 5 yrs you’ve been an underdog.

Travis Kelce claiming nobody thought the Chiefs could win this game, as if they were scrappy underdogs and not a team making its 3rd Super Bowl appearance in 4 years.
