College Football Transfer Portal Leads To Very Depressing Christmas Gift For Florida Gators Fan

Trevor Etienne Transfer

Kyle Johnson is a huge college football fan. He roots for the University of Florida.

Knowing that he lives and dies for the Gators, his girlfriend thought that she nailed her Christmas gift.

It accidentally backfired. She unknowingly gave him the most depressing present possible.

There is no way that she was the only one! Similar errors are going to occur more frequently in the modern era of college football as the transfer portal continues to play a bigger role in the sport.

Johnson received a No. 7 Florida jersey. Had she gifted him with the new threads prior to June 1, 2021, it would have been perfect.

Unfortunately, because of NIL, the jersey included a last name. Trevor Etienne wore No. 7 for the Gators in each of the last two seasons and ran for more than 700 yards in each year as the team’s second-leading rusher.

That is no longer the case!

Trevor Etienne, the younger brother of Jaguars running back Travis Etienne, sent shockwaves across the country when he hit the transfer portal on Dec. 7. To make matters worse for fans like Johnson, he announced his commitment to Georgia on Christmas Eve.

The Gators and Bulldogs are bitter college football rivals. They hate each other.

Thus, as Johnson opened his present on Monday, he was not as happy as his girlfriend may have expected. Instead of being excited for Etienne’s breakout year in 2024, he was reminded of the worst-possible outcome for a Florida player that entered the portal.

Johnson’s girlfriend was unaware of her depressing present. Hopefully it came with a gift receipt!

Perhaps the funniest part of the now-viral photo is Johnson’s attire. He was dressed in Gators pajamas from head-to-toe. Vibes were high. Etienne’s transfer and a bowl-less season was behind him.

It was on to 2024. It was Christmas morning. Nothing could bring him down!

And then he opened the jersey of a player who transferred to a rival school. Brutal.
