Trevor Lawrence Shows Utmost Respect To Patriots While Infuriating Fantasy Football Owners

The Jacksonville Jaguars blew out the New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon in AFC action. Starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence was a big reason why.

The signal caller threw three touchdown passes in a 35-6 victory. He nearly ran for a fourth score midway through the fourth quarter.

Despite there being minutes left on the clock, Lawrence gave himself up at the one-yard line. He did not run up the score, though he admittedly lost track of how much time was remaining in the game.

For fantasy football owners, it took six points off the board.

Lawrence broke free for a 15-yard scamper midway through the fourth quarter. He had a clear path to the endzone. Instead, he kneeled just short of the goal line.

The decision had little impact on the game. The Jaguars scored one play later. Lawrence lost track of time. He admitted that he should’ve scored.

“It’s something we talk about all the time in those situations,” he said after the game. “Going down and keeping the clock running. That was too much time, looking back at it. I looked at the clock and there were still eight minutes left. That was probably unnecessary.”

Lawrence didn’t want the Patriots to get the ball back. It’s something preached in late-game situations especially when the score is close. He respects the New England offense and didn’t want to give them any more opportunities.

In Sunday’s case, though, the game was already over. It was a blowout. Lawrence could’ve scored and it wouldn’t have changed the outcome. The Patriots were not going to overcome the deficit.

Fantasy football players revolt.

Trevor Lawrence’s decision had direct impacts on leagues across the country. It took six points away from Lawrence owners and put six on the board for Bhayshul Tuten.

It also impacted those who had an anytime touchdown prop on the quarterback, which had odds of around 3/1.

Lawrence took money out of someone’s pocked by sliding at the one-yard line. It was a mistake made with the right thought in mind. That won’t make fantasy footballers or sports bettors any less angry.
