Despite the fact that it’s over a quarter of a century since the Dallas Cowboys appeared in an NFC Championship game, former quarterback and Hall of Famer Troy Aikman believe that the “standard” of the organization is winning Super Bowls. And not only does Aikman believe that, but he’s specifically reminding current QB Dak Prescott of it.

Speaking with the Dallas Morning News, the 56-year-old Monday Night Football analyst said that Prescott — who has just two playoff wins in his seven-year NFL career — “recognizes the bar for Cowboys quarterbacks” is to win Super Bowls.

“What I’m most proud of in my career is the fact of whatever success the team of the ‘70s had, and Roger had winning Super Bowls, with our ability to win three, that now is the bar. And Dak recognizes that,” Aikman said.

“Dak has never cowered to the expectations of winning the Super Bowl,’’ he continued. “He’s taken that head on. He’s the only one I’ve heard since I’ve played that is really been that adamant about that being the standard for a Cowboys quarterback.’’

Aikman’s comments about Cowboys quarterbacks and Super Bowls come following one of the worst seasons of Prescott’s career as he was tied for the league lead in interceptions despite missing multiple games due to injury. He also threw two crucial interceptions against the San Francisco 49ers in a divisional-round matchup that Dallas ultimately lost by seven points.

Heading into the 2023 season, bookies think that the Cowboys are one of the favorites to win this year’s Super Bowl, as there are only a handful of teams with shorter betting odds to lift the Lombardi Trophy than them: the Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, Buffalo Bills, and Cincinnati Bengals.

This offseason, in an effort to improve their offense, the Cowboys franchise-tagged running back Tony Pollard, who had a breakout season with the team last year, and traded for veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks to pair alongside Ceedee Lamb and Michael Gallup.
