Could Troy Aikman make a long-awaited return to Dallas?

Aikman is in the final year of his ESPN contract, and while his broadcast partner Joe Buck signed a massive $100 million deal, the former Cowboys QB doesn’t look like he’s returning to the network.

Last week it was reported that Aikman had confronted Buck for signing a contract without consulting him.

“There had been weeks of Troy becoming increasingly cold, difficult, short, making comments,” a source with direct knowledge of the dynamics between the two men told me. At SoFi Stadium, “Joe finally snapped,” the source continued. “He basically said, Dude, are we really going to do this? And Troy’s position was: You f-cked me over!”

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones chimed in and praised Aikman while speaking to the media.

“And he’s very capable of doing any one of a number of things, certainly anything to do with football. I don’t know of any area, short of getting back out on the field … that Troy Aikman wouldn’t be qualified and competent to go into.”

While speaking to Mike Fisher of Cowboys Roundtable, Aikman said he would be interested in working for the Cowboys following Jones’ comments.

“This week he said some really kind things, which meant a lot to me, quite honestly,” Aikman told Fisher. “So, yeah, I would welcome any conversation with Jerry. And quite honestly I don’t know if there would be or if there ever would be an opportunity. But if Jerry came to me and felt that, in his heart, I could lend some services that would help make them better, I would. I’d have a hard time not taking a good look at that.”
